Honoring the Stories of Our Veterans: A Tribute to Their Service

At Rixstine Recognition, we are deeply honored to share the stories of the brave men and women who have served our nation. This Veterans Day, we’re featuring three extraordinary veterans whose dedication, bravery, and selfless service have left lasting marks on both their communities and the country. These are their stories, and it is our privilege to recognize them.

Bill Montz: A Life Dedicated to Service and Rescue


Rank and Title: Rescue Crew Chief, Marine Safety Lt. Commander

Service Branches: USAF and Air Guard (1980–1986), USCG Auxiliary (2001–2020)


For over 44 years, Bill Montz answered the call to serve, saving lives and lending his expertise to emergency response teams. Bill began his career with the United States Air Force (USAF) and Air Guard as a Rescue Crew Chief, where he played a critical role in rescue operations from 1980 to 1986. His commitment to service extended even further when he joined the USCG Auxiliary in 2001, serving until 2020 as a Marine Safety Lt. Commander.


Throughout his career, Bill has been awarded numerous honors, including three First Responder Purple Hearts and an impressive 21 life-saving awards. His dedication has been recognized at the highest levels, with leadership positions such as Vice President of the Nebraska Fire Chiefs Association and an honorary role as Assistant Chief with the London Fire Brigade. Bill’s contributions to his community, state, and nation demonstrate a lifetime of unwavering commitment to helping others in times of need.


Nicholas “Ranger” Linn: A Resilient Soldier and Decorated Veteran


Rank and Title: SSG, Infantryman, Airborne Ranger Qualified

Service Branch: U.S. Army (2002–2022)


Nicholas “Ranger” Linn’s journey of service began in October 2001 when he enlisted as an infantryman under a ranger contract. After rigorous training, he became an airborne ranger qualified and embarked on a career that would take him worldwide. Though his eyesight prevented him from completing the ranger indoctrination phase, Nicholas’s skills were invaluable, and he was placed on a worldwide assignment. His first stop: South Korea, where he joined E Co. Company, 102 MI LRSD, leveraging his airborne expertise.


Over the next two decades, Nicholas deployed six times to various locations, including Iraq, Africa, Kuwait, Jordan, Europe, and South Korea. At each deployment, he took on roles of increasing responsibility, from mechanized section leader to sniper squad leader. His expertise in battlefield forensics made him a vital asset, as he worked with local forces on evidence gathering and warrant processing, bolstering joint efforts with the Iraqi army and police. Nicholas’s distinguished career concluded at Fort Riley, Kansas, where he served in multiple leadership roles, leaving an enduring legacy of service and sacrifice.


Orval McClain: A Combat Veteran and Dedicated Infantryman

Service Branch: U.S. Army (4 years)


Orval McClain’s service to our nation led him into the heart of combat during his deployment to Afghanistan in 2012. As a dedicated infantry member stationed out of Georgia, Orval faced the challenges and realities of military service in active combat zones. He displayed remarkable resilience, courage, and commitment to his mission and his fellow soldiers, contributing to our nation’s efforts abroad with a steadfast sense of duty.


Orval’s journey as a combat infantry veteran stands as a testament to the strength and resolve required to serve on the front lines. His service and sacrifice remind us of the dedication required to protect our freedoms, often at great personal cost.


At Rixstine Recognition, we are privileged to create commemorative plaques for each of these veterans and to honor their stories. This Veterans Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all veterans, including Bill, Nicholas, and Orval, whose service has enriched our nation and safeguarded our freedoms. Their legacies inspire us all, reminding us of the enduring impact of courage and commitment.
